Waipu awakens winter with annual celebrationThe multi-colours of the clans are once again about to burst forth in the annual display of colour and art that celebrates Waipu in all its Scottish glory as the Art n Tartan begins a month of fun and frolics to warm winter hearts and put a smile on any faces that might be feeling the onset of a winter chill.
Waipu In Tartan festivities begin on June 20 with golden oldies rugby for the men in kilts and netball for the lassies, followed by a knees-up, a day at the tartan races, a pet parade, the second annual Waipu mud run and a host of other activities to entertain man and beast for the next month. Food and beverage of the Scottish kind will also be plentiful during the celebrations. With 30 costume entries and at least 14 masks entered, this years Art n Tartan promises to be a huge success and could well be the highlight. With a record number of prizes, competition will be fierce between clans and artists and their wearable wonders. Waipu local ticket sales are now open again at the Waipu Museum. Online sales are also available from www.waipu-tartan.co.nz. Opening night for the Wearable Arts is June 27 with a meet and greet from 7pm. Show doors open at 7.50pm. A matinee show will be held on Saturday June 28 with the the awards night on June 28.
