Jackman Waterman Classic back again

After a three year hiatus, the Jackman Waterman Classic was held again on March 25. The 12km ocean paddle race from Waipu Cove to Mangawhai Heads, open to qualified lifeguards, saw 19 entrants from Waipu, Mangawhai, Orewa and Karekare take part on paddleboards, surf canoes, surf skis and a SUP in dead calm conditions.

Orewa’s Dylan Pearce cruised to line honours on a ski in 1h 12m.

Event organiser Donald Baxter said it was sad not to have the Mangawhai clubhouse available, but post-race muster in the car park harked back to the old days.
