Hidden gems found on Art trail.jpg "Gailene Marsden lo(copy)") Saturday and Sunday 29 and 30 May is a great time of the year to visit Mangawhai.Autumn is a great time of year to visit Mangawhai. It’s Walking Weekend time, and includes the 11th running of the Mangawhai Art Trail, held in conjunction with the Walking Weekend on Saturday and Sunday March 29-30. This year 12 venues feature 43 artists. Gailene Marsden is a prolific artist with a very strong style. With her work highly sought after, she is always an artist to follow on the Trail. Though Gailene continues to paint her stunning water colours, over the last couple of years she has being working on acrylic mixed-media to produce large bright abstract works. While Gailene enjoys creating acrylic mixed-media abstracts from time to time, her main focus is to create ‘impressionistic’ works that depict the atmospheric effects of skies as well as the compelling colours and patterns of light and shadow across the landscape. Gailene prefers the watercolour medium for this as the beautiful luminous glazes that can be achieved with watercolour are worth every effort. The Mangawhai Art Trail is a free event. Maps can be found at the Mangawhai Information Center, museum, Sail Rock Café, and anywhere you see the distinctive pink flag which also denotes an art venue.
