Waipu women celebrated with awardsEach year, International Women’s Day on March 8 sees the Zonta Club of Mangawhai make a Yellow Rose Award to a local woman, or women, who have made a significant contribution to their local community.
This year a breakfast presentation was made to Waipu’s Jill Mutch and Juanita McGoldrick at the Cove Cafe. Juanita and Jill have been working on the Celtic Barn project in Waipu for four years as part of the Joint Venture Group which is project managing the build. The Joint Venture Group is a collaboration between the Caledonian Society, Waipu Primary School and the Waipu Museum who all need more performance space for their activities. Both ladies still find time to be involved in other Waipu community projects. Juanita has been an active member of the Waipu Business Promotions Group since arriving in Waipu, and a primary organiser of many events, as well as successfully gaining finance from funding sources. Juanita and partner Richard are also members of the local Lions group and were involved in the building of steps and rails for the new McKenzie Walkway between Waipu Cove and Lang’s Beach. Both Juanita and Jill have also been heavily involved in the Waipu Art ‘n’ Tartan Wearable Arts events since its inception with Jill being the backstage manager. Congratulations ladies!
