Surf Queen off to World ChampsEarly March saw the Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) Nationals run at Ohope in the Bay of Plenty. As a result of that competition, representative teams were selected for the national high performance squad and youth team for the 2014/15 year who will also compete at the Lifesaving World Championships (Rescue 2014) in France this September. A name well known to locals is Hannah Williams, who again shone throughout the competition showing her versatility at all levels and capping off a great season with two gold, three silver and two bronze medals and gaining her selection in the youth team squad of 12. Hannah is also named as one of the 27 in the development squad – athletes who have the potential to represent New Zealand at both open and youth levels in the future. With a little over 20 weeks to go a fundraising campaign is being planned for Hannah at the Mangawhai Club in the near future.
