Acclaimed Raitt to play local venueBonnie Raitt is more than a best-selling artist, respected guitarist, expressive singer, and accomplished songwriter. The 10-time Grammy Award winner is an American institution,a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee who has sold tens of millions of albums worldwide and undeniably changed the landscape of soul, rock, and blues.
Currently near the end of her 80-plus date tour of North America, the multi award-winning master of rock and blues returns to NZ for the first time since 2007, performing her only Auckland show at Ascension Wine Estate on April 7 before heading to Europe.
Following on from The Hollies in February, Bonnie Raitt will make it two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees to have played at Ascension within just a couple of months. Perhaps most well known for ‘Something to Talk About’, ‘Nick of Time’, and ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ (which was a recent worldwide cover hit for Adele) Bon- nie Raitt has an extensive blues, soul and rock rep- ertoire to share with the audience. “It’s a great honour to have Bonnie playing Ascension,” says owner Darryl Soljan. “Just be- fore Christmas I saw a clip of her performing a fantastic tribute to Buddy Guy at the Kennedy Centre Honours Awards in the US. The New York Post wrote that she performed with a ‘sexy swagger’ and that her guitar playing was ‘extemporary’. They weren’t wrong and I can’t wait to see her play live in the vineyard.” Last year Rolling Stone Magazine affirmed Raitt's musical impact, highlighting the "sheer verve and skill" that made her one of only two women among the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, as well as naming her new album ‘Slipstream’ one of the best of 2012. Returning from the USA, NZ country singer/songwriter Jackie Bristow will open for Bonnie Raitt at the Ascension Wine Estate concert which takes place in the vineyard amphitheatre on Sunday afternoon April 7.
