Coffee Pot comes to life
What was known for many years as the German Café at Kaiwaka has recently returned to German ownership. Sandra and Stefan Karnapke and their four young children recently took possession of the newly named Coffee Pot Café and Gateway North Motor Lodge.
The eatery has recently undergone a refurbishment and the new fresh look, together with pleasant staff and good food, is drawing favourable comment from customers. “This is just the first step along the way,” says Sandra who has overseas experience in the industry and is pleased to have tour buses again arriving in numbers. They’re also catering for locals from breakfasts through to that leisurely mid-morning coffee from the new Italian espresso machine, and a variety of Kiwi and German meals. Next week the newly appointed gift shop will open to the public and there will also be a conference room available for meetings and get-to-gethers. The Coffee Pot is open seven days 8:30 to 7pm and under management of Karen De- Haan employs a total of 12 local people so is a major player to the Kai- waka business sector. “We want to bring back animals like before, establish gardens and a barbecue area for fami- lies to come and enjoy and also refurbish the accommodation to wel- come families and travellers through the area,” Sandra adds. |
