Mangawhai bowlers invade Kamo
For the fourth consecutive year, Mangawhai Bowls has supported the Northland Bowls Annual Coaching Tournament. Juniors strong It is this type of competition that has made Mangawhai the strongest club for junior bowlers in Northland. Results over the last five years certainly indicate this. Unfortunately only one of our residential coaches, Allan Stebben, could make the trip. Both he and Sue Wightman have contributed immensely to the development of new local bowlers. First year bowlers at Kamo included Diane Adamson, Mona Guttenbeil, Glen Jones, Ray Draycott and Erin Wildermoth played.
Other juniors included Donna Anderson, Tony Cornish, Harry Foote, Tony Heath, Ray Hynes, Roger Hill, Jan Hollingsworth, Barbara Howard, Noel Howard, Idwal Leese, Glenis Mackintosh, Ken Mackintosh, Car- ol Neal, Helen Neville, Jerry Pilmer, Eric Povey, Diane Robinson, Jackie Rutledge, and Ian Toddun.
It was pleasing to see some of Mangawhai's experienced skips also making the trip to Kamo, including Graeme Brocklesby, Len Lawrence, Eileen Manuell, Gerry Mulligan, Colin Neal, Allan Stebben, and also former Browns Bay skip John Crocker who has recently shifted to the area. Their support cannot be over-emphasised and the knowledge that they pass o to our is greatly appreciated. John Crocker certainly gave an indication of what he will bring to the club in winning the B green section. His other team members were John Saunders and Ian Toddun. Runner up on B green were Dundee Henwood (Mangawhai president) Doreen Fausett and Ray Draycott. And third John Anderson, Ken Mackintosh an Marion Pilmer. On A green Allan Stebben Pauline Lincoln and Erin Wilder moth were runner up. Mangawhai Life Member Len Lawrence and his team of Ted Tuffey and Idwal Lee were third. There were some excellent bowls played by all Mangawhai bowlers throughout the day.
