Tsunami siren testing coming your way soonWhangarei and Kaipara District tsunami sirens will be tested on coastal and harbour locations along the east coast on Sunday April 7. Sirens will sound for 10 minutes at 9.20am and again for 30 seconds at 10am. Their blue lights will flash throughout the test period. Siren locations from Bland Bay to Mangawhai Heads are managed by Whangarei District Civil Defence Emergency Management, with the bi-annual testing educating people about what to do when the sirens sound. The correct action is for people to turn on a radio, TV or computer and find out what is going on, and find out what action they should take. Useful websites to check for in- formation include www.kaipara. govt.nz/Civil+Defence or www.face- book.com/civildefencenorthland. There are 73 sirens along the Whangarei District coastline, which includes Mangawhai. If you want to know more about your nearest commuity response plan and evacuation zone maps, contact the Whangarei District Council Civil Defence Emergency Management Officer Victoria Ran- dall, Northland Regional Council, Whangarei on (09) 430 4200.
