Ambulance station close to realityThe consent process is now underway to establish the new Mangawhai St John depot opposite the Molesworth Drive industrial area and adjacent to the Mangawhai Park parking area on the northern side of the playground. “There has been much lobbying and debate over the past four years between the Kaipara District Council, Mangawhai Community groups and St John officials to ensure the establishment of a Mangawhai ambulance station,” says Northern Region operations manager Tony Devanney “and we finally have their approval.” The project would not be possible without money raised from the Mangawhai St John Opportunity Shop, which raises funds solely for the purpose of contributing towards the build of the station. Funds and donations have also been received thanks to the efforts of the local community and businesses and though further funding is required, the project is now on the road to reality. If current progress continues locals should see some earthworks in action before too long with the likelihood of the building being completed by late November. n More St John ambulance volunteers are required in the Mangawhai area with free training and qualification progression on offer to those interested in this important community service.
