Mangawhai, one of the newer chapters in the Zonta organisation, hosted the recent regional conference at the Mangawhai museum.
Mangawhai’s District 16 hosted 70 Area 1 representatives from Auckland and Whangarei. Opening addresses were made by newly appointed district governor Maureen Heine and area director Lynda Garrett, followed by reports from the nine clubs within the region.
Advocacy and Action workshops were held to pooling ideas on how to maintain Zonta’s profile and work among the less privileged.
Guest speaker was local author and reporter Rae Roadley.
Visitors viewed a video on the work of Zonta and its achievements worldwide, including fighting HIV in Rwanda.
“From ‘Books in Homes’ to baby packs, support of Women’s Refuge through to international issues and tertiary scholarships, though small in the overall scheme of things, together we can make a difference,” said Mangawhai president Sue Poynter.
