Seminars to help with epilepsyThis month the Northland branch of Epilepsy New Zealand will be holding seminars in Dargaville and Mangawhai. Each seminar includes: what is epilepsy, what causes epilepsy, recognition of seizure types, first aid for seizures, seizure triggers, recording seizures, principles of anti-epileptic medication, life style issues, and more. Sessions are open to anyone living with epilepsy – whanau, and also for caregivers, community workers, and education and health professionals wanting to find out more about epilepsy. Seminars will be conducted by field officer Margaret Dunn whose role supporting people living with epilepsy and their families means she is able to make face-to-face visits to clients anywhere in Northland. Understanding and managing epilepsy can help someone either newly diagnosed with epilepsy and feeling afraid and daunted about the future, living with unmanaged seizures for a long period of time, or facing problems at school or in the workplace. To RSVP for either of the sessions contact Margaret Dunn (09) 438 5498, 027 291 6869, email northland@epilepsy.org.nz or arrange an offsite training session at a time and venue that suits you.
■ Dargaville: Thursday, 23 May, nurses lounge, Community Health Services, Awakino Rd, Dargaville, 10am–12pm. |
