The complete meal comes to townHistorically beer was considered a ‘man’s drink’ but more recently brewers realised they were doing themselves out of a large percentage of the market and so moved towards a product with appeal also to the fairer sex both in taste and presentation. At The Filter Room Ale and Cider house – under the Hawkes Bay sun and nestled between vineyards and apple orchards – you will find a handcraft brewery and cidery that has been steadily developing a range of traditional beers and ciders from their modern plant sitting on eight acres of a cider apple orchard. Their wares are now available locally, in-house and on tap at Sail Rock Café and Restaurant. Comprising three full-time multi-skilled brewers and cider makers, Hawkes Bay Independent Brewery is purposely built and designed with the latest technology required to produce premium quality beers and ciders both in taste and presentation. As good things take time, features of these beers include the low natural sugar content which, coupled with the slow (28 day) brewing period brings out the natural, balanced malty taste of a healthy beer. Their range includes Pure Lager, European-style Pilsner and medal winning English Kingston Cider on tap. The Pure Lager is crisp, clear and easy to drink. The Kingston Cider resonates its apple base and cider drinkers will definitely want to try this brew, but another little beauty is the age-old ginger beer but with a twist. This is the old fashioned brew but infused with mandarin, and a 4 percent alcohol content is something very easy to sip quietly through dinner on a cold winter night. The Filter Room range is not available in supermarkets. These ales go hand in hand with good food and Sail Rock are purveyors of Angus Prime beef, supplied by multiple Steak of Origin winners Chris and Karren Biddles of Te Kopuru. You could be enjoying such a treat this very weekend. Don’t miss out!
