A community says thanksMangawhai citizens thought they had hit the jackpot when the Warkworth Countdown supermarket started delivering groceries.
Usually the domain of small stores 50-odd years ago, once again, for a small charge, busy Mums could get grocery service to their door. Now though there’s a combined disappointment as grocery delivery man 'Joe' – an incredibly friendly, helpful, smiley, flamboyant figure who has managed to captivate the hearts of locals with every delivery made – is heading to Kaitaia to be closer to family. Joe was one of a kind say locals, and just by being himself made people's days a little brighter, a little happier. Wellwishers decided to get together and thank Joe by donating a little something he could remember them by and accept as thanks for the kindness he has given to so many. Over $250 in total was donated, and on Saturday May 16, after his last delivery, Joe joined some of the community at Bammas Surf Shop for a tearful surprise farewell and memento thanks to Sarah C and Threadbox. Thanks Joe, for being you. Keep that smile going. Joe is pictured, centre, in the yellow vest, surrounded by wellwishers and the Bammas Surf Shop crew. |
