Playing with chalk paintSometimes some of our much-loved furniture items just need livening up. They have done a sterling job over the years but are now looking a bit dated.
Waipu’s Mags Crichton and Heather Rinkin have become Chalk Paint converts and found that, with a little time on their hands, small cost and little effort, rejuvenating furniture can be fun rather than tedious, and little expertise is required. Chalk Paint is not a new product but is an easy way to liven up tired tallboys or coffee tables or even give kitchen cupboards a makeover offering a variety of finishes from vintage French, distressed or shabby chic. Mags recently held a weekend ‘Introduction to Chalk Paint’ workshop in the Caledonian Rooms in Waipu which proved to be a learning curve for some and a great sharing of ideas. The workshops were well attended by locals keen to find out about this eco-friendly, easy-to-use product. “It was four hours of fun filled activity, very productive, creative and social,” says Mags. “Students left with more skills and the confidence to upcycle existing furniture.” More workshops will be held in the future, probably August. All levels are catered for as well as a furniture make-over workshop. Contact Heather Rinkin hmrinkin@hotmail.co.nz or Mags Crichton magsc@farmside.co.nz for more details. |
