Few places handy to Auckland draw visitors like Mangawhai and few things in Mangawhai draw people like the lure of animals when town meets country each Labour Weekend at the Mangawhai Beach School Agricultural & Gala Day.
MRRA: Pay rates and avoid penalties
Because it can’t give a “cast iron assurance” that defaulting ratepayers won’t have to pay penalties, the Mangawhai Residents and Ratepayers Association (MRRA) is urging its members to pay overdue rates by December 31.

Northland MP Mike Sabin has joined Health Minister Jonathan Coleman in welcoming North-land’s decision to fund free doctor visits and pre-scriptions for under 13s.
From 1 July 2015 the Government is investing $90 million over three years to provide free doctor visits and prescriptions for all children aged under 13 years.

Club fundraisers have a ball
The 2014 MBR Board Riders Ball went off with a bang recently with over 150 people dancing at the Mangawhai Surf Club till the early hours, all in the name of fundraising for the Club and Sustainable Coastlines.
Digital jamboree for local Scouts
Thanks to the generosity of the Mangawhai Club the local Scout group was recently able to attend the World Scout Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) which takes places every year on the third weekend of October.
Mangawhai Estuary Hazard removed
A large sandbank in the Mangawhai Estuary ski lane has been removed by the dredge Spirit of Mangawhai alleviating what had become a dangerous marine hazard.
The dredge spent the last three months pumping sand from the estuary hazard and onto the distal spit.
Mangawhai cadets regain top skills comp title
Mangawhai Cadet Unit has reclaimed the top prize at the 2015 NZCC Nation-al Skills competition at Ohakea.

Just a thought - The cost of Labour Day
Labour Day was instigated to celebrate the acceptance of the eight-hour working day. New Zealand workers were among the first in the world to claim this right when, in 1840, the carpenter Samuel Parnell won an eight-hour day in Wellington.
Mangawhai thundercats about to roar
Thundercats are go!
And they’re coming to Mangawhai Saturday, November 22.
Thundercat racing is a high adrenalin, high ac-tion sport with explosive wave jumping and tight competitive surf racing in a tunnel hulled inflat-able boat.
Girls help feathered friend
Shyla Hodge (14) and Alicia mcDonald (11) were spotted walking their 3-week-old duckling on a leash in Lincoln St recent-ly. Affectionately named ‘peking’, both girls plan to keep him safe until he is able to fly and rejoin the other ducks.
Big group walks new track at opening
Labour Day saw the official open-ing of the Tanekaha Waterfall track, a sister to the Tanekaha Forest track that
opened a year or so ago.
Over 80 people of all ages chose to walk at least part of the route and attend the momentous occasion
