Safety first for students in school zoneBeing dropped off or picked up at Mangawhai Beach School will be a safer and less muddy experience for children following improvements to the road shoulder. Previously the drop-off/pick-up zone opposite the school in Insley Street left children having to cross a rough and muddy shoulder between the road and footpath. Kaipara District Council recognised that this created a potential safety risk, not to mention children arriving at school with muddy or wet shoes. As a practical and affordable solution the council has re-shaped and re-metalled the shoulder (pictured) to make it non-slippery and clear of mud and puddles. To minimise any disruption much of the work was done in the school holidays. |
