Expert staff key to Mangawhai BikesDes Cogan and Sadie Parker were both involved in the creation of the Mangawhai Rayders Cycle Club af-ter road riding regularly with a group of like-minded enthusiasts. Bike Mangawhai has hatched from that venture.
Former NZ Commonwealth Games mountain bike representative Sadie Parker has run an indoor spin class for three years over winter to keep local riders fit and help prepare them for various contests like the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge at the end of this month. Des is new to cycling after being encouraged onto a bike two years ago and is now about to ride the 120km leg at Taupo. Not bad for a new guy. Sadie, on the other hand has lived and breathed cycling for over 20 years competing at numerous world cups and world champs in cross country mountain-biking. The highlight and low light of her career was the 2002 Commonwealth Games where mountain biking made a debut. She went on to travel in a coach-ing capacity with the junior Commonwealth Games team, NZ Oceania team and the World Cup team. In 2004 Sadie started a successful junior mountain bike club in Auckland that still runs today and is the model for the latest Mountain Bike Mondays coach-ing sessions held at the Mangawhai Activity Zone area, coaching adults and juniors in skills and technique to provide a safe and enjoyable ride. Many of the bikes that Sadie and Des see on the road and in the forest are in need of repair and obviously children outgrow their current bikes. With a lack of bike shops between Orewa and Whangarei, Sadie and Des could see the need for a local bike shop with a qualified mechanic. Enter Brent Love the mechanic with the super surname. “Bikes these days are technical,” says Sadie. “Mechanics are hard to come by so we are fortunate to offer a mechanic of such calibre to repair and service your bikes.” Expert sales staff will make sure you find the bike and equipment that suits your needs, like packs, racks, helmets, and gloves. With Christmas coming it’s time to book those bikes in to be checked and repaired. “But more than that,” Sadie adds, “We have a fan-tastic range of Giant childrens bikes just in time for Christmas and we can offer a Santa Shed for Santa to pick up bikes on Christmas Eve. This is a huge help for Santa.” Join Des, Sadie and Brent on December 6 at 110a Moir Point Rd for their grand opening, sausage sizzle, Grind Coffee, plus a chance to win a $100 prize pack and other giveaways from Bike Mangawhai. |
