Come all ye faithfulWaipu’s Crazy Christmas parade is like no other and it’s a whacky way to spend a fun-filled Christmas Eve.
Community groups, businesses, local farmers and contractors are all invited to enter a float. If you can’t manage that, just dress in your craziest gear – the crazier, the better – and be in to win. Even the spectators can win prizes! Join in the fun, keep up with the tradition and be in to win some great prizes. Organised by the Waipu Business and Promotions Group, proceeds from four street markets each year go towards funding the parade. There is also the great Christmas hamper raffle, all done with some help from Whangarei District Council community grants. There are plenty of places to enjoy a good meal before the fun starts with the parade down the street followed by prizegiving a little later at Caledonian Park. Be in Waipu well before 7pm or you won’t find a place to park. ■ It’s not too late to get a team together and organise a funky float to join the parade with the pipe band, dog walkers, clowns, and the fat man in the red suit atop the local fire engine. Call Judy Guy on 432 4000 for more details. |
