Kaipara muso comes homeKaipara artist Albi, AKA Chris Dent, has had another successful year traveling and playing shows around New Zealand.
"After moving to Wellington in February everything fell into place," he says. "I got to live in a city that I absolutely love whilst having the freedom to travel around the rest of the country for gigs and adventures." As of this year he has done at least 27 gigs from Wellington to Northland. Part of what keeps him so busy is his band project, Kohl's A Killer. Based in Auckland, with Chris Butler and Callum Tong, the trio have released two singles this year and have had successful shows, the most prestigious being an opening slot for rising star Jesse Sheehan last month. Chris’s solo work has not been left behind though and many opportunities have come his way this year. He has been working on a second EP that is still in progress with the help of some Wellington and Auckland musicians. "It is my most exciting piece of work so far," he says, bringing full band components into his work unlike anything he had recorded so far. “But you’ll have to really wait to hear it.” As well as the EP he happened to be in the right place to impress the Rockshop franchise folks who were so impressed they decided to aid him in any way they could firstly by giving him a brand new Cole Clark acoustic electric guitar worth around $2000. As well as that they have offered him other opportunities that will come to light earlier next year. Alongside all of this exiting progress Chris was a guest artist at Wellington’s yearly Wellyfest folk festival. "It was a fantastic opportunity, and I have never had so much fun working in my entire life." He was received warmly and intends to do many more in the future. Next year looks to be a big one with some part of his solo or band work taking him overseas to work. As well as releasing the Albi EP (yet to be named), he intends to play with more popular artists to raise his own profile. If you would like to catch up with Albi you can at Cafe Eutopia on November 29 with a $5 door charge. BIG YEAR: Musician Chris ‘Albi’ Dent, has been traveling nationwide playing music and impressing audiences. |
