Junior surf club registration coming upMangawhai Heads Volunteer Surf Lifesaving Club is getting ready for another great season. The Junior Surf Lifesaving Program at Mangawhai Heads is designed to promote ocean sports and provide children from age 4 through 14 with the age appropriate skill sets to be safe and have fun around the beach and surf. A focus will be put on skill and character development as junior surf kids build confidence and develop beach and ocean skills while setting and reaching for personal goals. The primary goal of the program is to provide a fun and challenging pathway for youngsters to develop all the skills necessary to eventually achieve their Surf Life Guard Award. Ocean athletes can join just for fun, learning, and camaraderie and some may also decide they would like to compete in regional ocean sport competition carnivals. Any interested families with children aged 4-14 are welcome to the Mangawhai Heads Junior Surf Club Program Registration Day on October 22. The first Junior Surf Training Session will meet on Sunday October 29 from 10am to noon, and will meet every Sunday through to March 25 (with the exception of December 24 and 31). The Junior Surf program is not a drop-off program. Surf Life Saving New Zealand health and safety regulations require that a parent or guardian remain on site or actively involved during the program. Parents are needed and strongly encouraged to help out in whatever aspect they are comfortable. Some parents may choose to help out the coaches with beach and water activities, while others may choose to help with putting equipment away or with helping at the grill. Parent help of all kinds will be welcomed and appreciated. See you at registration day!
