Sausage snags gold award
Taking another step up from winning silver with their smoked Kransky two years ago, the Mangawhai Meat Shop team of Dan and Ange Klink struck gold earlier this month taking out the People’s Choice award in the North Island section of the 2014 Devro NZ Sausage Competition for their Toulouse sausage.
Market an accident waiting to happen say police
Increasing concerns about the traffic and pedestrian safety associated with the Saturday morning Mangawhai Village Market has led to calls for more public parking but also for its relocation to another venue.
Ed Said - Dogs are ok but people can be annoying
Summer is definitely on. It’s a time that brings a whole lot of good things but sometimes, seasonal events of not-so-good things too. The pluses being holidays, bar-bies, beaching and long balmy nights. The not-so-good involve such precious things as pets.
A life spent helping others
Long time Mangawhai businesswoman and philanthropist Bonnie Douglas died recently and was remembered in a service at the Senior Citizens Hall attended by more than 150 people.
Your Questions Answered - Careful planning needed to cope with growth
The property feature in the Mangawhai Focus last week – with the headline Housing boom brewing - should cause Council and all in Mangawhai to reflect on the implications that this has for community development.

Letters to the Editor
Dear John Robertson…
You are two years in charge and now you let us know that the Mangawhai Wastewater Scheme needs additional reticulation
Thanks from candidate
I would like to personally extend a big thank you to all who supported me in my election bid.
Worzels World - More than enough is too much
Human beings are an extremely adaptable species. We have achieved the incredible and the dreadful. But in a finite world constrained by the laws (generally very sensible ones too) of space and time, there are limits. We can cope with a lot but as any Guantanamo Bay interrogator could tell you, there is a point when it becomes just too much. It's certainly become too much for me and I have divined that too much is more than enough.
Buzz in the Bay - News from Waipu and Bream Bay

Bird life will bloom over summer
While the guardians of the endangered and delicate fairy tern seek the utmost solitude, the arrival of the bar-tailed godwits is met with the peal of bells signifying the annual migration, albeit in dribs and drabs, back to the Waipu sandspit, and Ruakaka and Whangarei beaches.

Though none will attest to any great athletic ability, by the Mangawhai community they are all seen as ‘track stars’ – the 40-odd volunteers, mainly men but with a sprinkling of women – who meet regularly on a Friday to hone, hammer, chop and clear Mangawhai’s growing labyrinth of walkways and cycle pathways.
Scouts benefit from Mangawhai Club grant
The Mangawhai/Kaiwaka Scout Troop has received a substantial grant from the Mangawhai Club allowing local Scouts to attend the Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) and Jamboree On The Internet (JOTI) and amateur radio in Auckland.

Charismatic singer songwriter, Hammond Gamble, has long been a feature of New Zealand’s live music scene.
Rates arrears: Numbers tell the story
A total of 517 Mangawhai ratepayers or 20 percent of total property owners still owed more than $2 million in prior year rate arrears at September 30.
Approximately two-thirds of those have Auckland mailing addresses, indicating they are not permanent residents, and most likely own two properties.
