Letters to the EditorDear John Robertson…
You are two years in charge and now you let us know that the Mangawhai Wastewater Scheme needs additional reticulation, additional pumps and the policies for maintenance don’t cover all matters. What will be the next? This centralised reticulated wastewater scheme seems to be a bucket that is designed without a bottom. There are hundreds of modern domestic waste-water treatment systems, with a much better purity result. To install such a system costs half, or even less and maintenance costs are lower. There are not many people that want to be connected to a wastewa-ter scheme that never will work efficiently with endless alterations producing endless additional costs. What law says definitely that it is a duty to be connected to a centralised wastewater scheme even when it doesn’t work well? What law says definitely that households that can be connected but don’t want to be connect-ed have to pay for a service they don’t use? What will be a modern wastewater treatment system in some years? Traditional Maori knowledge is: What comes from earth must go back to the earth. In the past Maori have never flushed poo with water. (We need to refer carefully to discussions on this issue during the Waitangi Tribunal 1978 and the decisions the court has taken). Are we to look back on another two years of very poor management? Christian Simon Mangawhai Thanks from candidate I would like to personally extend a big thank you to all who supported me in my election bid. Thank you fellow Focus NZ members, my family, and all you Northlanders who encouraged me and took time out from your busy lives to help make a difference. The result may not have been as good as we hoped it would be, but we will still carry on, noting that all other parties took at least 10 years to have members in Parliament. Focus NZ still requires your input with issues and solutions for us all, solutions that will bring our great nation back to where the provinces are treated with respect and people are considered the most important aspect of society.
