Finalists Announced for the Silver Fern Farms Kaipara Sports Awards

The nominations received from individuals and sports clubs in the Kaipara District have resulted in 52 finalists being announced by Sport Northland for the annual Silver Fern Farms Kaipara Sports Awards. From these finalists the major award winners will be chosen, including the Kaipara Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year followed by the naming of the Silver Fern Farms Sportsperson of the Year. The awards evening is set down for Saturday 9 November at the Maungaturoto Country Club.

Three new categories have been added this year to the already extensive awards line up. For the first time Special Olympics and Parafed will be recognised as mainstream sporting codes while the Club of the Year Award will also be presented to a nominated club that has made the greatest achievement over the last year.

Sport Northland’s Community Sport Advisor, Janine Gilmore is looking forward to hosting the Kaipara Sports Awards in the Otamatea District this year.

“We alternate the staging of the Kaipara Awards between Dargaville and Maungaturoto so hope that sportspeople from all over the Kaipara District will continue to support the event, as they have in the past”, she says.

Guest Speaker for the dinner function is Olympic kayaker Mike Walker, while Jenni Carr will be ‘Master of Ceremonies’ for the evening.

Tickets can be purchased from Sport Northland Offices in Dargaville, Maungaturoto and Mangawhai, or for more information contact Janine Gilmore janineg@sportnorth.co.nz or 0272 609 008.
