All in a days workn You can’t build anything without first doing the ground work and there’s a lot of groundwork going on in Mangawhai right now. The Museum car park is in a little disarray at present but all in a good cause. Work is progressing well in fine weather, ready for the laying of a permanent surface, then lay the foundation for the Pioneer Village next door. n Not such a big job at the Mangawhai Club but unstable ground meant the two water tanks were sitting somewhat askew so with the help of a digger, a couple of drainlayers and a couple of farmers giving all kinds of advice, the tanks were moved away from any danger, re-sited on terra firma and a bit of necessary drainage done at the same time under the watchful eye of Colin Neal (obscured). n To make an omelet you have to break eggs and that’s the stage the former Smashed Pipi restaurant is going through at the moment. Some of the action is Council-based and some on behalf of new owners Lloyd Rooney and Mike Fraser, who plan a complete a facelift and refit in time to re-open around Labour Weekend. We’re sure locals will be keeping a close watch. |
