The Rodney College hockey team travelled to the South Island Mixed Tournament in Ashburton September 2-6, winning their pool and coming second out of 10 teams.
Rodney was expected to be in the top four, but went one better by making the tournament final – the best result ever for them in a mixed team competition. Players knew the final would be tough, but with team morale high everyone responded to the pressure. Supporters and management said it was one of the best performances seen from the team. Only a heartbreaking ‘own-goal’ in the last minute of the game let the result slip away. |
