Step forward for Puhoi to Wellsford HighwayThe NZ Transport Agency says details of its application and sup-porting documents to construct the Puhoi to Warkworth section of the Ara Tuhono – Puhoi to Wellsford Road of National Significance are now available online. Their publication fol-lows formal acceptance of the application and documents by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA). The Transport Agency’s Highways Manager, Tommy Parker, encourages people to review the documents online. “Although the public submission process has not yet begun – we anticipate that will hap-pen around November – in the interests of transparency and our commitment to keeping the community fully informed, we’ve made this information available as soon as possible for people to review,” Mr Parker says. Following the EPA’s acceptance of the NZTA’s application, the Ministers for the Environment and Conservation will next decide on the appropriate consenting process to consider the application. Northland MP Mike Sabin has welcomed for-mal acceptance of the application. “I have made this project priority number one since being elect-ed, as it was highlighted through the whole-of-region economic summits I ran after being elected as the most important piece of infrastructure to for the region. “The fast-tracking of this project should see it commence mid next year, something that shows a real commitment and belief in Northland’s potential,” says Mr Sabin. The four-lane 18.5 kilometre Puhoi to Wark-worth section of the road starts at the Johnstones Hill tunnels at the north end of the Northern Gateway Toll Road on State Highway 1. „ To find out more about the announcement, and to view NZTA’s published application and supporting documents, visit www. nzta.govt.nz/puhoi-to-warkworth-application. |
