News in BriefToll road kiosk coin-only The NZ Transport Agency is reminding drivers that the Northern Gateway Toll Road manual kiosks at the Dairy Flats service centre now accepts payment by coin-only.
NZTA staff will be on duty at the service centre for the first few days to help make the switch as smooth as possible.
The majority of faults involve the bank note and card payment options on the kiosks, and after four years of service that technology has become dated and more costly to maintain says the NZTA.
Buying trips at www.tollroad.govt.nz remains the best option for travelers because they do not need to stop before using the highway and no administration charge applies.
Home insulation figures welcomed
MP for Northland, Mike Sabin, welcomes news that more Northland homes will be insulated under National’s Warm Up New Zealand: Healthy Homes programe.
He says Northland has seen 9317 homes insulated as at July this year.
“Assistance is going to those who need it most,” he says. “Warmer, drier homes reduce health risks caused by cold, damp housing. Healthier homes mean less time off work and fewer visits to the doctor and healthier families.
Mr Sabin acknowledges the work of Healthy Homes Tai Tokerau and the ASB Trust, who are rolling out the targeted programe throughout Northland.

Warmest winter on record
NIWA scientists have confirmed this as our warmest winter on record.
Record or near-record high August mean temperatures throughout the North and South Island showed many locations at least 2 degrees Celcius above the August average. There were well above average temperatures (more than 1.2 degrees Celcius) throughout most of New Zealand.
The nation-wide mean temperature was 1.9 degrees Celcius above the August average, based on NIWA's seven-station temperature series, making this the warmest August on record since 1909.
