School Tunes in to Student RadioIt is fairly standard nowadays for schools to be up to date with technology through the regular use of computers, iPads, iPods and notebooks, but Mangawhai Beach School has recently added another dimension with their own radio station.
Mark Perry of Heads FM has donated a Low Power FM Transmitter which now means that the school has it’s own frequency running on 87.8FM. Principal Aaron Kemp says the children are really excited about the addition and have decided they will be called Beach FM, which he says has a nice ring to it. “The children will be transmitting on this frequency at lunchtimes 12.30pm to 1.30pm to be extended during the summer and when we have a better handle on the organisation of the station. We are hoping to replay the lunchtime show at 5pm and 8am the following morning. “Mangawhai Beach School would like to acknowledge this incredible donation from Mark Perry and Heads FM,” adds Mr Kemp. “Thanks Mark – now you have some local competition!” If you are interested in having your community notice advertised on the school station contact the school office or radio@mangawhaibeach.school.nz. It will be interesting to note how the children develop their communication and presentation skills over time and it is an opportunity which is certain to have some influence on their future careers. ON AIR: Mangawhai Beach School pupils Simon Parker and Zelda Sims get an introduction to radio with veteren broadcaster Mark Perry. |
