Junior golfers get own roomUp to 50 pupils from Mangawhai Beach School have been spending each Tuesday at the Mangawhai links as a part of their school sporting curriculum and to foster an interest in the sport. Under the guidance and instruction of Shane and Denise Stuart plus any parents and grandparents willing to supervise, many of these pupils have made great progress and are showing signs of advancing from Kiwi Golf (shortened holes) to a longer form of the game. Due to numbers, the enthusiasm and the likelihood of the scheme continuing, club officials Mike Howard and Steve Hinton felt it appropriate that these young players have their own facility. With assistance of a grant from North and South Trust Ltd, alterations have been made to provide these young players with a ‘junior room’ comprising their own locker rooms together with seating space and storage. “If we are encouraging new and younger players then we need to provide them with adequate facilities as members of the club,” says Steve Hinton “It’s about fostering the next generation.” |
